As the director of the non-profit organization Homes for All Community Coalition (HACC), I’ve had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the transformative power of these initiatives. Recent data from Local Housing Solutions suggests that while California has made great strides in making it easier to build legal ADUs, there’s still a significant number of unpermitted units being constructed. This underscores the urgent need for affordable housing options and the importance of innovative solutions like ADUs.

At HACC, we’ve been working closely with local policymakers to streamline the ADU approval process and provide educational resources for homeowners interested in building these units. By making it simpler and more accessible, we’re empowering communities to take an active role in expanding their housing stock and creating more inclusive neighborhoods.
